POSITION SUMMARY

 

Has overall responsibility and fiscal accountability for assigned office, and all Company personnel assigned to that office. This includes monitoring and increasing revenues on a consistent basis from year to year, working with the SVP, Global Sales to ensure that Director(s) of National Sales assigned to the office adheres to the Sales Plan, and generates new accounts for the office and the Company.  Accountable for the maintenance of the office’s profitability, and ensures efficient productivity of all positions within the office.  Responsible to ensure that every position within the office provides excellent customer service.  Sets and measures performance standards for all operational departments within the office, ensuring employees obtain sufficient training to perform the tasks assigned.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Manages office P&L, ensuring revenues and operating profits are at or above Company prescribed levels, and costs are maintained according to budget and/or in appropriate relation to actual revenues.
  • Must demonstrate a solid working knowledge of all services provided by the office, and the Company in general, and comply with all applicable laws and regulations relating to those services.
  • Works independently and in cooperation with sales staff to acquire new accounts and gain additional business from established accounts.  Works collaboratively with the Sales organization and senior sales management and Directors of National Sales to provide sales support and direction.
  • Monitors branch operational activities to ensure customers are billed at appropriate and reasonable levels for services provided.
  • Ensures all office staff are sufficiently trained and functioning in accordance with assigned responsibilities, maintaining an adequate organizational structure in accordance with Company guidelines to support the Company’s goals.  Ensures employees are treated with professionalism and given guidance and opportunity to succeed within the Company according to their capabilities.
  • Responsible for the coaching and development of the skills and knowledge of all staff, working to ensure employee job satisfaction.
  • Manages the Independent Operator program, ensuring I/O agreements are properly initiated and maintained, and that Independent Operators are treated with respect, dignity and fairness at all times.
  • Demonstrates “Customer First” mentality, for both external and internal customers, in his/her own behaviors, and ensures the same “Customer First” mentality within all staff.
  • Ensures all Company policies and procedures are followed with regard to employee interactions, including personnel requisitions, New Hire documentation and orientation, and annual performance evaluations.  Maintains positive employee morale and employee commitment to Company’s values.  Maintains compliance with all other Company policies.
  • Ensures customers are treated with professionalism and are provided with services from Company employees in accordance with agreed upon requirements.  Ensures customer requirements are within Company’s capabilities and are priced fairly and reasonably allowing the Company to perform at optimum levels.
  • Maintains cooperative and collaborative relationship
  • Interacts cooperatively and strategically with other General Managers actively supporting a strong and unified Company. 
  • Position responsibilities are not limited to the above, and may be augmented or restructured as may be necessary according to business conditions and Company needs.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

 
EDUCATION
The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four year College or University, MBA preferred; or 5 years of general management experience supervising a staff spanning multiple working departments. Management experience within Transportation and/or Service industries preferred.

 

Skills: 

  • Must demonstrate strong working knowledge of how to devise rates and service fees for customers to maintain maximum profitability. 
  • Must demonstrate a working knowledge of Company financial systems as they relate to office operations, including a working knowledge of how to correctly monitor revenues, expenses, invoices, invoice corrections, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. 
  • Must demonstrate strong math skills along with an accounting ability in areas of pricing, cash management, expense control, financial reports, budgets and forecasting.
  • Must have a working knowledge of how to monitor productivity of staff and profitability of accounts.  Must be able to manage at the highest levels of productivity and profitability.
  • Work requires strong problem solving ability and capability to think and respond quickly and effectively to sales and services issues, sometimes requiring the ability to analyze complex details to resolve complex issues for customers.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the Company’s computer applications for operations maintained at the office.
  • Must be able to use the Company-standard software for word processing and spreadsheets, etc., as applicable, to generate reports, charts, and graphs.
  • Work requires the written communication skill to compose complex letters and proposals.  Must have the ability to edit and proof business correspondence and reports for accuracy and clarity.

• Eight (8) hours or more a day of sitting; walking; standing; bending; answering the telephone; entering data into the computer; retrieving data from the computer or analyzing data from reports.
• This position may require overnight travel up to 30% (including travel by car and by airplane).
• Must have a valid driver's license and willingness to fly on an airplane.
