OVERVIEW

Privately owned Niche Tour Operation who services our clientele emphasis in the Domestic (USA) Market.  We are International as well serving mainly Western Europe, and these areas are growing. Our company, now in its 25+ year of business brings together a professional group of players while offering family style leadership.

 

We are seeking a VP to lead the air and ground staff in coordinating cost-effective air, train, and bus transportation for group and individual travelers, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. Create and promote a high-performing team environment where members are motivated and flourish both as individuals and as a team.

 

Work with executives to establish quality and cost saving goals and measurements for the department. Research quality vendors for air, train and bus transportation (over-the-road, transfers, and sightseeing buses) and negotiate the best rates possible.

 

Forecast an accurate budget, manage within it, and keep management informed of any changes. Maintain a strong relationship with vendors through consistent and meaningful contact.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

1.         Lead and manage the operations department for the Air Travel, Sightseeing Bus, and Over-the-Road and Transfer Bus groups.

2.         Work with executives to establish goals, metrics and the budget for the operations team each year.

3.         Prepare, manage and analyze operating budget; submit monthly financial reports.

4.         Responsible for hiring, training, assigning responsibilities and mentoring of department members.

5.         Resource and coach for department members and staff in other departments.

6.         Work to maintain positive, professional relationships with carriers.

7.         Negotiate fares and contract agreements.

8.         Spend time with each vendor, educating them about Company’s operations.

9.         Research and resolve more complex transportation challenges.

10.       Look for ways to maximize financial resources, including re-negotiating contracts or obtaining contracts from additional carriers.

11.       Devise and maintain an effective system for managing the flow of information both internally and externally.

12.       Maintain good working knowledge of all responsibilities within the department.

13.       Study trends in the airline and bus industry to anticipate problems and capitalize on opportunities.

14.       Provide status/budget reports as requested by management.

 

COMMUNICATIONS

 

Effectively communicate Company service philosophy and goals to vendor personnel. Function as a contributing member of the Operations team through effective communication and assisting others as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

•        5-10 yrs experience in an operations management role required.

•           Four-year college degree highly preferred.

•           Proven success in supervising, developing and training a staff of over ten direct reports.

•           A keen appreciation of a high level of customer satisfaction balanced with business considerations.

•           Proven success with budget management, including the driving of cost savings through process improvements and vendor negotiations. Purchasing experience highly preferred.

•           Strong management, leadership, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

•           Must have excellent verbal communication skills, including group presentation skills and the ability to diplomatically handle cross-functional communications.

•           Understanding of automation and travel/airline industry a plus.

•           Must have analytical and solution-oriented business and financial skills. Experience in office environment with deadline pressure, managing multiple complex tasks, is required.

•           Must be able and available to travel out of town periodically.

•           Must have basic office skills and ability, including computer data entry, processing of paperwork, and visual proofing of documents.

 

 

EDUCATION

The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four year College or University; or 7 to 10+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent of education and experience in the business specifically responsible for Negotiations of all facets of Transportation.

While performing this job, it will require:

 

• Eight (8) hours or more a day of sitting; walking; standing; bending; answering the telephone; entering data into the computer; retrieving data from the computer or analyzing data from reports.

• This position may require overnight travel up to 30% (including travel by car and by airplane).

• Must have a valid driver's license and willingness to fly on an airplane.
